Sullivan Panel

DESIGNED BY LOUIS SULLIVAN

  • Sullivan’s design expresses his 'philosophy of ornament' and combines organic and geometric forms

  • The replica is cast from the original 1880's terracotta ceiling panel located in the Schiller Theater, Chicago, IL

  • The Schiller Building, designed by Adler & Sullivan, was built in Chicago in 1889 and was the firm’s tallest structure

  • Paul Rudolph obtained the panel as a gift, when retiring as Dean of the the Yale School of Architecture

  • Panel was subsequently displayed in his Beekman Place apartment in New York City
